THE cake recipe

For the recipe for THE birthday cake go to
It is a recipe from Sky High: Irresistable Triple-Layer Cakes. I may have to seriously consider getting that book.

I found these pictures on the interenet at Food librarian's photostream on Flicker.

THE Birthday Cake

Dinner was good. But the cake was what Abby and I had been looking forward to. It was a triple layer chocolate sour cream cake with peanut butter cream cheese frosting and a dark chocolate glaze. Adjectives would include scrumptious, yummy and decadent.

Abby almost patiently waited with much anticipation for the cutting of the cake.
Dad wasn't going to get any of HER cake.

Marshall tackled his piece first with a fork.

But hey, this is serious business. You need a fork and hand to enjoy the whole thing.

Six Decades - and Counting

We (Richard, Janet, Wendy, Dylan, Abby, Marsahll and I) celebrated my 60th Birthday at Janet's on the 23rd. The brisket dinner was good - thanks Janet and Wendy.

The family got together to give me a Cricut to give my scrapbooking more options. Of course, it will be put to other uses also.

Janet also made sure I had some Chocolate Covered Cherries - a Christmas/Birthday tradition.

Abby and Marshall gave me a counted cross stitch calendar. The creative juices are flowing.

Not so little purple pansy

I have enjoyed pansies since I was a little girl. In San Antonio pansies are a winter flower. This year my pansy plants are producing some lovely huge flowers.

I have arrived

With much encouragement from family I am entering the blogging world. Part of the delay is that I've spent the last four months scrapbooking our family's activites for the year. As it was to be a surprise Christmas and birthday gift for my mother and I wasn't doing much else of note I didn't have much I felt I could blog about - afraid I'd spoil the surprise. I did realize as I was gathering pictures that I had to have an identical scrapbook. My "small" project turned into three volumes - and growing. Hope you enjoy some sample pages.
